It's all about Me!!!
I’ve never understood the word artwork. For me, art is never work. It’s an expression of what I see, who I am, my girlfriends, my precious puppy, and life as I know it. If art was work…I’d hire someone else to do it!!!
Most of my life has been spent dabbling in some type of art. It’s varied over the years from making one-of-a-kind gifts for girlfriends (they always say they love them – the sign of a genuine friend), decorating homes, creating center pieces for charities, designing invitations for special events…if it calls for art, someone is always calling me! One of my best friends always says, “Only you can decorate the decorations!!!”
Like all of the great “masters”, my art has specific inspirations. Luscious Lollipop, my darling and delightful Maltese puppy, is my Mona Lisa. She’s 4 pounds of white “fluff”…the motivation for naming and starting my fun and frivolous company. If I’m at my computer, which is most of the time, Lollipop is on my lap. Like my true girlfriends, she loves me unconditionally. To reward this loyalty, I frequently include Lollipop in my art, with such an adorable face, how could I help myself???
I recently turned the big “5-0”…the 21st anniversary of my 29th birthday!!! My girlfriends, fortunately I have been blessed with the “best of the best”, took me on a fun filled weekend to San Francisco. As we headed off to catch Menopause the Musical, their sense of humor, we paused to take a group picture. This photo was the inspiration for the design of my first mug. I originally did just enough “Let’s Toast To Girlfriends” mugs for my close girlfriends to say thank you for being so fantastic, showed them around a little, received positive feedback, and started my small business. Leave it to my wonderful girlfriends to help me get a business off the ground by starting a toast!!!
The creation of my card line has been a blast. Mostly they are all about ME …as it’s all about me… me shopping, me accessorizing, me golfing, me drinking, you get the picture! My current favorite artistic endeavor has been designing custom art by turning someone, typically women as we are so much more fun, into a whimsical caricature drawing highlighting their favorite things about themselves. Whether it’s big jewelry, big hair, big lips, big whatever, I take the best and most fun parts of my subject and bring them to life. Anyone can have a photograph taken, but I can take their personality plus their likeness, decorate it with all the things they fancy…and voila! The camera might not lie, but I can…or at least fudge the truth a little!!!
More about ME… I’ve been happily married for 27 years, quite an accomplishment considering that I am only 29, but who counts anymore. My fantastic husband worked diligently, allowing me to be a “stay at home Mom”, but of course…that never happened. If it wasn’t a school related project, it 
was a charity event or a golf tournament eating up my time. I put the “V” in volunteer, and have always been happy to do so. My husband and I are blessed to have a terrific son, plus I fortunately inherited his three children and eight grandchildren…they are all the greatest and have enriched my life immensely.
So, at this stage in life, I have the two greatest opportunities imaginable… being creative and making people happy with my art…life just doesn’t get any better than that!!!
